Love Grows Best in Little Houses

Love Grows Best in Little Houses

Hi! And welcome! I’m Ashley. I guess it only makes sense to start out with a little back story as to how I got here today writing this blog. This blog that I have been contemplating for at least six years! I mean, by now I’m certain I missed the big blog band wagon. Nevertheless, I am here to finally begin to share my journey in remodeling and decorating our little untraditional “cottage.”

Seven years ago, I began dating my husband. Within 18 months, we were married and living in a 1200 sq. ft. 1990 (something) mobile home. We believed this was only a temporary living situation and planned on buying a “real” house fairly quickly. But time passed and we got comfortable. Very comfortable with how affordable our cost of living was. Every time we shopped for new homes the thought of a “high” mortgage paralyzed us. We both enjoyed many hobbies and we could save money for emergencies. Sure, having a garage, more storage, normal sized tubs and all the shiny new fixtures sounded amazing but it just never seemed worth the price. Maybe we’re frugal. Idk. Anyway, as time passed, houses only got more expensive.

During these years, I had been working full-time as a paralegal but I spent most of my nights and weekends working on our house. Anything from decorating to a total bathroom remodel to painting furniture, I did it. I honestly can’t even say how many times I’ve painted each room in our house. There was also some time that I painted furniture and wood signs as a side gig. Then I had a booth for a year selling my décor and furniture.

When our daughter was born in June, I became a stay at home mom. I no longer sell my creations or run my booth so I needed another creative outlet. That is what gave me the push to start blogging my home projects. I really hope to inspire anyone who visits here. My projects are certainly not limited to mobile homes. However, I haven’t seen many blogs dedicated to mobile home fixer uppers. So I also hope to provide a great resource for those out there who are living the mobile home life. No matter your type of home or size of home, you can make it beautiful. You can make it HOME.

Here you will find practical and affordable DIY projects for any home, but I will also include anything special you need to know if your working on a mobile home. You will also find inspiration for everyday decorating and holiday decorating. I would say my style is comfy, casual, a touch of modern farmhouse and a touch of cottage. Oh and of course plenty of vintage thrown in too. And thrifting is my jam so I might even add some thrifty posts as well 🙂

As far as house shopping, we haven’t really thought about it in a while. We’ve grown to appreciate the home we’re in. I guess that comes with maturation. The older I’ve gotten, the simpler. Being able to be home raising our daughter and spending time together brings far more joy than any house could ever bring. We have everything we need here and nothing more. After all, “Love grows best in little houses…just like this.”

Thanks again for being here. I really hope you stay awhile & follow along.

  • I just love this. There are no blogs pointed towards the mobile home life and how great it can look and feel in our homes! Best of luck to you and your blog while also being mom, wife, and homemaker…that’s a lot in itself!

    • Heather,

Thank you for your comment! And you’re right. Mobile homes have come a long way & they can really be beautiful & cozy. Thanks again for taking time to reply to this post. Knowing I’m reaching others who are living the mobile home life is truly rewarding 🙂

  • Oh my gosh ! I’m so happy I found your blog ! I have been searching for a mobile home remodel/cottage country decor blog. I never could find one I really liked that fit me. Till I found yours. I have a 97 mobile home. We have lived in it since it was new. It is in need of some updating and decor update. I am so excited to see your progress and I hope I can get some ideas from you. I will look forward to your posts.

    • Hey, Shanna!

I’m glad you find me too! I was in your position a couple years ago. Wanting to remodel/refresh and there were no blogs showing inspiration for mobile homes! I thought surely there has to be someone out there who loves the farmhouse & cottage trends that is also living the trailer life! haha. Thanks for commenting & letting me know there are folks out there looking for this kinda thing. If you have any ideas for future projects or anything specific DIYs you’d like to see, please let me know! I’d love to hear your feedback.
